Ben Folds

I love that Ben Folds can make a song about anything banal or random about his life. Like Hiroshima (B B B Benny Hit His Head) for example. If you listen to it once without actually paying attention to the lyrics, you might think the song is about something heartfelt and sweet, but it's really about him falling off the stage at a show he did in Japan. I think that this is just one example of how talented he is at songwriting.

Hiroshima music video
I don't care for the video, but this is just so you can hear the song.

Pablo Casals by Yousuf Karsh

I recently saw the Yousuf Karsh photography exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago for my history of photography class. We had to select a picture to write a paper about. Karsh is known for shooting portraits of notable people, such as Winston Churchill (the portrait that put him on the map), Martin Luther King, Jr., Albert Einstein, Georgia O’Keefe, John and Jacqueline Kennedy, Helen Keller, Fidel Castro, Audrey Hepburn, and Muhammad Ali, as well as many others.

I chose to write about his portrait of Pablo Casals, a master cellist from Spain, someone who I was not familiar with. All of Karsh's photographs have gorgeous, dramatic lighting, but this picture really stood out to me because of how beautiful it is. The picture is so beautiful because you can almost hear the music when you look at it. It appears as if the music itself is the source of light in this picture.

Hello

I am creating this blog mainly as a way to record inspirations, encounters, stories, sketches and ideas. It's too often that I forget about something really cool that I find, and I want to prevent that, as well as share these things with anyone else who is interested.

Here goes!
